Blog 11: The Price of Freedom (A Poem)

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it." ~Thomas Paine

This is my freedom poem.

This is my freedom stance.

You cannot have freedom without a price.

You cannot understand freedom without understanding the past.

In 1776, we declared our freedom,

In 1783, the war for our freedom ended.

Madison spent years researching our freedom document.

He chose the best system that history revealed.

The system is not outdated or ancient.

It is proven.

The Founding Fathers spent time debating and modifying the document,

To provide us with liberty and rights.

This is my freedom poem.

This is my freedom stance.

You cannot have freedom without a price.

You cannot ignore those who sacrificed.

From the Revolution to Afghanistan,

From the Civil War to Vietnam,

From the Spanish American to the World Wars,

Men and women fought for our freedom.

The young and old lined up to fight, defend, and die,

for a belief that ran through their veins.

Denying their sacrifice is like denying our lifeblood.

Their split blood is what continues to give life to our freedoms.

This is my freedom poem.

This is my freedom stance.

You cannot have freedom without a price.

You cannot be double-minded in the expression of freedoms.

Freedom of Speech is guaranteed,

not freedom of acceptance.

Don't get upset at the different viewpoints in our country.

Choose what is right to determine your path.

The right to bear arms is vital.

Vital to protect us against tyranny.

It is not for hunting that we own,

It is for an understanding.

The understanding that the government is for the people,

not for themselves.

This is my freedom poem,

This is my freedom stance.

You cannot have freedom without a price.

You cannot continue to have freedom unless it is valued.

Teaching our children and families to cherish these truths,

This is what is needed.

We do not need destructive principles to guide our way.

We do not need to wipe our history away,

But to study and learn all of it.

All the good and all the bad.

Without learning both,

You cannot apply good choices when the future calls.

Without learning both,

Our freedom will not endure for future generations.

This is my freedom poem.

This is my stance.

You cannot have freedom without a price.

That price comes in many forms,

time, debate, sacrifice, tolerance of different views, destruction of lies,

growth through history, true education, and more.

Are you willing to pay the price?

Are you willing to honor that price?

"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." ~Thomas Jefferson
