"Every single morning, we get a chance to begin again." ~Anonymous
It seems simple enough to begin again. The Bible states that His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23). Receiving mercy from anyone helps us to wipe the slate clean and start over. Sometimes I think we are the ones who need to give mercy to ourselves. We can look back on the mistakes previously made, learn from them, and apply changes. We have the choice to give mercy to ourselves, let it go, and move forward. Every morning is the start of a new day, where we can choose to commence our day. How we choose to do that defines our character. Are we going to learn from our mistakes, or are we going to continue in the false illusion that we have it all together?
Sometimes we need to give mercy to ourselves.
It was hard for me to get back to the keyboard and start to write again. I felt shame for not doing it for so long. I felt shame for allowing the stress of things I could not control get in the way. I started to believe the lie that I couldn't do this or that no one would take me seriously. Then one day, I heard deep in my soul the command to write, move forward, swallow my pride, and learn from my mistake.
Don't let the lies of shame win.
My mistake was allowing the behaviors of others to control my peace and affect my life's pursuits. We cannot control others. As I get older, I have realized that control is at best an illusion of our desire to have it together. There are so many facets of life that are completely out of our control. The behaviors of others are one of those things. What I can do in the future is set boundaries with myself to protect my peace and life. I can try to set boundaries with others, but they do not have to listen. I can choose not the give their actions power by living my life to the fullest. Choosing to continue when others are playing games shatters their power in your life.
"Don't be afraid to start over again. This time you are not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience." ~Anonymous
Starting again from failure is not shameful; it is victorious. This choice is a small victory that other victories are built on. You are not starting again without knowledge. From that failure, you have gained knowledge. What you do with that knowledge is completely up to you. If you do not apply that understanding in future decisions, then you have failed. So, learn from your failures and take another step in application. Taking these steps builds character, strength, endurance, persistence, and a strong will. If we give up after a failure or mistake, then we will fail.
"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up." ~Thomas Edison
To practically not give up shows strength. Reveal your strength by making a plan from your newfound knowledge. Be intentional with your lesson and don't waste it. When you have a plan, implement it. What I am most proud of in my life is when I have made a mistake, learned from it, and then made my life better from that knowledge. Then the mistake, or failure, was not a waste.
Don't waste your mistakes and failures.
